Parish Organizations and Ministries
Women’s Club:
The Women’s Club is the oldest ministry at the parish. They provide a strong foundation of support for the church and its families. Dedicated to the growth and development of the spiritual life of the women in the parish, the Women’s Club has always been a major part of St. Philip Neri. Whether fundraising for the church, donating money to the school, maintaining the altar linens, priest vestments, and sanctuary, member’s of the Women’s Club affect our worship and lives. Members are active in many ministries and parish projects, and generously give both their time and treasure. The Women’s Club is the joy of our parish!
Men’s Club:
The members of the current Men’s Club came to St. Philip Neri after the closure of St. Laurence Catholic Church in 2002. They provide strong leadership to St. Philip Neri by mentoring young men and donating funds to the church from their various fundraisers.
Knights of Peter Claver:
The Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary provide opportunities for all Catholics to be actively involved in their faith by living the Gospel message as professed by their patron saint, the Jesuit priest, Peter Claver. The St. Philip Neri chapter of the Knights was established in 1995. The Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary engage in a variety of church and community service projects. In addition, the Ladies Auxiliary choice St. Monica to be their spiritual guide because of her perseverance in prayer
Lectors:
The Lectors prayerfully proclaim the Word of God during the Mass and bring the Scriptures to life for the faithful
EUCHARISTIC MINISTRIES:
Eucharistic Ministers prayerfully serve the people of St. Philip Neri by distributing the Body and Blood of Christ during Eucharistic celebrations. Their
whole work involves taking in hand the vessels of the Body of Christ and of the Blood of Christ and reverently distribute them with everyone at the Liturgy.
ALTAR SERVERS AND ACOLYTES:
The role of the Altar Servers and Acolytes is to assist the Presider in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. Responsibilities include, caring for the altar candles, bearing the cross and candles in the entrance / recessional processions and assisting with holy water, and offertory gifts at the Liturgy.
USHERS:
The ushers at St. Philip Neri reflect the warmth and welcome of Christ himself. Their primary duties and responsibilities include greeting and welcoming parishioners and visitors as they enter the church, helping them to find seating and take up collections.
CHOIR:
Following in the footsteps of our patron saint, Philip Neri, we enjoy a variety of music which heightens our worship experience as we make a joyful praise unto the Lord.
PRAISE DANCERS:
The religious dance, an expression of spiritual joy, turns into prayer which expresses itself with a movement which engages the whole being, soul and body. The youth reminds us of our patron saint, Philip Neri along with St. Theresa of Avila, who found intervals of dancing as an expression of the fullness of their love of God.
SUNDAY SCHOOL:
The children’s Religious Education Program at St. Philip Neri provides faith formation for children ages pre-school (age 4) through 8th grade, teaching the person of Jesus Christ as well as the prayers, practices and traditions of our Catholic Faith.
R.C.I.A.:
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.) brings interested adults into full communion with the Catholic Church either through Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation by teaching them the faith.
ST. PHILIP NERI / OUR LADY OF PEACE FOOD PANTRY:
The mission of the St. Philip Neri / Our Lady of Peace Food Pantry is to provide the basic food needs of the hungry in the South Shore Community. The emergency food pantry helps more than 2,000 people a month.
